Student/Trainee Counsellor Placement (2 Positions)

Closing Date: 09/10/2026

The Isle of Wight Youth Trust is offering two unpaid student counsellor placements. We ask for a minimum commitment of 12 months.

For over 40 years, the Trust has provided therapeutic, wellbeing, and practical support to children and young people aged 5 to 25 across the Isle of Wight. Our multidisciplinary team delivers short-term therapy (typically 6 to 12 sessions) using a range of approaches, including person-centred counselling, CBT, and art therapy.

As a Tier 2 service, we support young people with moderate clinical needs and work closely with agencies such as Children’s Services, MHST, and CAMHS. All referrals are assessed through a robust triage process before allocation.

  • Be enrolled on a course leading to qualification with a PSA-accredited professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP, NCPS)
  • Be approved, or awaiting approval, for placement by their training provider
  • Be permitted by their course to work with children and young people under 16
  • Be available to work face-to-face in Newport and, where required, educational settings
  • Be able to work within the Trust’s operating hours (remote-only placements are not available)
