Young Islander Launches Festive Wellbeing Calendar to Support Mental Health

This winter we are delighted to be working alongside Bobby, a pupil from Lanesend Primary School in Cowes, who designed a Wellbeing Advent Calendar with 24 free family activities to promote positive mental health. Each day offers a simple moment of joy, reflection, or togetherness—perfect for supporting mental wellbeing during the winter months.

With generous support from BAE Systems, GKN, and Glanvilles Solicitors, the calendars have been professionally printed and are being distributed to six Island primary schools: Northwood, Lanesend, Gurnard, St Francis, St Blasius, and Binstead. Wellness Journals from the Youth Trust will also be available in school receptions. Both calendars and journals can be collected from the Youth Trust reception at 114 Pyle Street, where donations are warmly welcomed.

The initiative is part of the Youth Trust’s Winter Wellbeing Campaign, which focuses on spreading hope and positivity during the holidays.

Bobby shared: “This campaign is about more than fundraising—it’s about helping young people feel supported and connected during a time that can be tough for mental health. I hope the calendar brings a little light to families this winter.”

To complement the campaign, the Youth Trust team are delivering interactive assemblies in participating schools, offering practical wellbeing tips and strategies—such as grounding techniques—through fun activities and songs designed for children.

Paul Savill, our Engagement Coordinator, comments: “This project is a wonderful example of how creativity and community spirit can come together to make a real difference. We’re so proud of Bobby and grateful to our corporate partners for helping bring this idea to life.”

The Big Give Christmas Challenge

Tuesday 2nd to Tuesday 9th December 2025

We are calling on our wonderful community to come together for the Big Give Christmas Challenge, as part of our Winter Wellbeing Campaign to support young people’s mental health.

Every donation made to the Youth Trust through the Big Give – the UK’s largest match-funding campaign – will be doubled up to a total of £10,000, making twice the impact for young people across the Island.

Funds raised will help the Isle of Wight Youth Trust to deliver vital winter wellbeing workshops and initiatives for children and young people aged 5–25. These programmes are designed to support mental health and wellbeing during the winter months, when challenges can feel even greater. Cold, dark weather often increases feelings of isolation, and for those already struggling with mental health issues, this lack of social interaction can exacerbate loneliness and depression. Combined with reduced sunlight, lower vitamin D levels, and academic pressures, the festive season can be far from joyful for some.

Dayna O’Brien, our Fundraising and Communications Coordinator explains: “This is an incredible chance for our Island community to unite and ensure young people have access to the support they need during what can be a challenging time of year. Every pound donated during the Big Give week will be doubled, meaning your generosity goes twice as far, so please take part and help spread the word.”
