The Works is an abstinence based drug and alcohol treatment programme for 18 to 25 year olds. It uses different approaches of counselling and teaching for the delivery of its comprehensive day programme.
In the day programme three main approaches have been brought together to form a framework that can be delivered in a group setting or individually. It is by integrating these models that 'The Works' will help young adults achieve sustained and long term recovery without the need for using drink or drugs.
Written in to the weekly programme are sessions on team building, relaxation, time for completion of workbooks, 1:1 time and workshops that will include careers, housing and health education, as well as other topics.
This is a three month intensive day programme followed by up to nine months in the peer support group. In these groups activities will be pursued with the individuals will be empowered to lead these activities.
- The first approach studies the practices and principles of the popular 12 Steps and has been written using teaching models. This has been designed to use in a group setting and covers a wide range of topics.
- The second approach employs the NHS 'Routes to Recovery' mapping tools and covers ten sessions focusing mostly on coping skills.
- The final approach uses the Institute of Behavioral Research's 'Straight Ahead' manual. This is a ten session programme which aims to reduce the rate of relapsing.
