Sporting Chance
The Island’s first charity sports shop needs donations of unwanted sports equipment and kit, to continue to raise funds for the Isle of Wight Youth Trust. Open for just over six months, the shop, located next to Pizza Express in Town Lane, Newport has so far raised £6,300 to help provide vital support services for young people.
The shop, the first charity shop to be entirely dedicated to all things sport, enables young and old to acquire sports equipment at affordable prices. Following the Olympic legacy it aims to inspire and encourage the next generation to be able to pursue a whole range of sports and to increase health and fitness levels at the same time.
Sporting Chance is currently open on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Director Eileen Monks said:
Over the past 28 years The Youth Trust has provided advice, information, counseling and support for thousands of young people and, in some cases, their parents or carers. Sporting Chance has raised invaluable funds that enable us to keep providing a really important support service. Whether it’s a ping pong set or a Chelsea Football kit we’ll make sure any unwanted items are given a great new home.
The charity has been amazed by the generosity of hundreds of people that have donated anything from cross trainers and riding boots to celebrity football shirts and trampolines. It’s calling on Islanders to rummage through their garage or loft and dig out any unwanted items all of which will be resold for a good cause.
The shop is also looking for volunteers, so if you have a spare couple of hours, please get in touch.
Sporting Chance is currently open on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
