Get Moving for Mental Wellbeing on Isle of Wight Day
For the inaugural Isle of Wight Day on Saturday, 24 September, The Isle of Wight Youth Trust will be joining together with others across the Isle of Wight to celebrate the things that make our Island home great.
For 32 years, the Isle of Wight Youth Trust has opened its doors to young Islanders in need of support. Last year over 800 children and young people accessed the Youth Trust’s one to one counselling service. This is something of which they are very proud.
On Isle of Wight day the Youth Trust will celebrate the hard work and the support it receives from the local community by teaming up with local businesses to host a series of fitness workshops at Island Innovation VI Form Campus in Newport.
From Yoga, to Cross Fit, Zumba and even Hula Hooping, there’s a workshop for everyone. Members of the community are invited to take part in these workshops and ‘get moving for mental wellbeing’. A donation of £2 is requested by all participants to support the Youth Trust’s vital work in the community.
Organisers at the Youth Trust hope that this day will remind Islanders that being active is not only great for your physical health and fitness, but can also improve your mental wellbeing.
Youth Trust Director, Eileen Monks, OBE said, “We think that of the mind and body as being separate but, what you do with your body can have a powerful effect on your mental wellbeing.”
“There are steps children, young people and their families can take in their own lives to improve their mental wellbeing including regular exercise. But, sometimes people need extra, professional help. The Isle of Wight Youth Trust provides that extra support through professional, therapeutic counselling for children and young people all year round”.
“We deal with a range of issues, from depression and anxiety to eating disorders and self-harm. Whatever the issue Island children and young people can come to us for help.”
